“More Love Songs.” Loudon Wainwright III. Fiend (import). AAD. Don’t let the starry-eyed title fool you--Wainwright has abandoned none of his rapier-tongued, virulently funny observations about love and loss in this new album, the singer-songwriter’s second recorded in England--Richard Thompson played on and co-produced both. Wainwright’s morbid humor has been tempered in recent outings with a surprising (for him) optimism. So the hurt in “Unhappy Anniversary,” in which he celebrates a divorce, is balanced by the reassuring resolve in “The Back Nine.” In addition, “The Acid Song” provides a hysterical, post-hippie affirmation of Thomas Wolfe. Sound: excellent. 1/2
