Arizona Nuclear Plant Closed for Maintenance

PHOENIX —
Unit 1 of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station will be shut down for a month for repairs, so the plant, 50 miles west of Phoenix, will be producing no electricity.
Technicians took the unit out of service after a pinhole-size leak was found in a water tube in one of the two generators. Plant officials said they decided Monday to keep the unit shut down for repairs.
Unit 2 was taken out of service earlier this month for 60 days of routine testing.
