A new storm spread fresh snow in New Mexico, where National Guardsmen continued aiding ranchers isolated by up to 50 inches of snow from a storm blamed for 42 deaths in 15 states. Snow plows were at work and traffic was slowed from the Midwest into New England after the earlier storm moved out to sea during the night. Schools were closed in many Massachusetts cities, including Boston.
