Twin 3 1/2-week-old boys died after surgeons operated for eight hours to separate the infants, who shared a heart, liver and intestines, a Philadelphia hospital spokeswoman said. The second twin died 6 1/2 hours after the first in the operation doctors had said would give only one of the twins a chance to live. The second baby’s death was caused by “problems relating to surgery, primarily cardiac problems,” said Childrens Hospital spokeswoman Patricia Unser.
