First Sierra Bank in Bishop was closed.
State banking regulators closed the bank, which had a branch in Mammoth Lakes and $22 million in deposits, because bad loans and operating losses had driven it into insolvency. The 4,400 deposit accounts are covered by FDIC insurance and were transferred to Security Pacific National Bank branches in the area. First Sierra was the first state-chartered bank to be closed this year.
