Israelis Talk of Peking Ties

Share

Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said that France has agreed to discuss with Chinese leaders the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and China, Israel radio reported. Peres met with French President Francois Mitterrand last week, and the radio quoted Peres as saying that the French have agreed to be intermediaries. Israeli newspapers reported that Peres or a top aide, Avraham Tamir, may have held secret talks in Paris with Chinese officials. Peking has said that diplomatic ties are impossible until Israel withdraws from territories captured in the 1967 Middle East War.
