Becker to Work With Track Coach

Share

Boris Becker, the two-time Wimbledon champion, ruled out a reconciliation with Coach Gunther Bosch and announced Sunday that he had selected Frank Dick, a leading British track and field coach, as his conditioner.

The 19-year-old West German was dealt a stunning fourth-round defeat by Australian Wally Masur in the Australian Open tennis championships last week. He then split with Bosch, who said he could not accept Becker’s request that he scale down his involvement and become a part-time coach.

Dick, coach of the British track and field team and personal coach of two-time Olympic decathlon champion Daley Thompson, will begin part-time work with Becker this week. Ion Tiriac, Becker’s manager, said Dick would spend as much time with Becker as was necessary to improve the player’s physical fitness.
