Huntington Beach : Bank and S&L; Robbed in Unrelated Incidents
Undetermined amounts of cash were taken in robberies of two financial institutions Monday. Police said the robberies did not appear to be related.
At 9:26 a.m., a man approached a teller at a branch of Great Western Savings and Loan Assn. at 16141 Beach Blvd. and displayed a note demanding money, Sgt. Marty McKinnon of the Huntington Beach Police Department said. The robber left on foot.
Police described the man as white, age 20 to 25, with long hair, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 140 pounds and wearing a blue jacket and blue Levis.
The second robbery occurred at a Bank of America branch at 15672 Springdale St., McKinnon said. The robber entered at 12:04 p.m., approached a teller and produced a note on a paper sack demanding money. He threatened to kill the teller if she failed to comply with the request, McKinnon said.
After being given money, the thief fled on foot through a rear door, McKinnon said.
Police described the man as white, about 30 or 35 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with very long brown hair, a thick black mustache and a pock-marked face. He was thought to be wearing a brown or beige “Members Only”.
