Relatives spirited the ailing mother of ousted President Ferdinand E. Marcos out of the hospital today, said Rene Saguisag, an adviser to President Corazon Aquino.

The government launched an investigation into the whereabouts of Marcos’ mother, Josefa Edralin-Marcos, after discovering she was missing from the Philippine Heart Center in Manila at 6 a.m. She is in her 90s and in poor health.

Officials learned she had been taken from her hospital room hours after mutinous troops tried to storm military bases and took over a television and radio station, Saguisag said.

Saguisag said he could not say whether Edralin-Marcos’s departure from the hospital was related to the military rebellion.

Marcos has lived in exile in Hawaii since fleeing the Philippines last Feb. 26. It is not known whether his mother has yet been told of his ouster.
