Jean-Claude Killy, former Olympic skiing star, resigned as president of the organizing committee for the 1992 Winter Games in France, just 17 days after taking the job.
Killy, who won three gold medals in the 1968 Winter Games, was in the midst of a controversy over his decision to move the sites of three skiing events.
Michel Barnier, head of Savoy regional government, said he will take over the presidency temporarily but hoped Killy would reconsider his decision.
