March Trial Set for Ortiz, Two Others

Former San Diego County Registrar of Voters Ray Ortiz and two associates will go on trial March 17 on charges related to the manipulation of county contracts.
Ortiz, Maria Caldera and Lance Gough pleaded innocent Friday in San Diego Superior Court, where Judge Elizabeth Zumwalt set the trial date.
Ortiz, 52, is charged with 27 felony counts of grand theft, making false entries on public records, and misappropriation of public funds while he was in office. He resigned Sept. 1.
