Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston reported a 61% rise in income and a 24% increase in revenue for the year ended Dec. 31, 1986. Fourth-quarter profit was up 62% while sales rose 20%. The firm’s strong fourth-quarter is tied primarily to the continued strong demand for its 80286-based portables and desk-top systems and to the wide market acceptance of the Compaq Deskpro 386, a spokesman said. These high-performance models accounted for more than 72% of sales during the quarter, he added.
