Rancho P.V. : Homes OK for Wallace Site
The City Council has approved an 82-home project on 24.1 acres at Armaga Spring and Highridge roads.
The plan calls for the owner, Wallace Ranch Associates, to dedicate a park in the northeast corner of the development and a pedestrian trail in the southern half. The trail will provide schoolchildren an alternative access to Highridge Road. Ridgecrest Intermediate School is across Highridge from the development.
The American Radio Relay League has pledged $500 a month to finance the operation and maintenance of the park and a museum, which will house the equipment of radio pioneer Don C. Wallace, who owned the site. Wallace died in 1985. The league has also expressed interest in continued operation of an amateur radio station as part of the museum, which will occupy the old Wallace house.
The Rancho de Los Palos Verdes Historical Society has pledged to provide the museum with a docent program and to staff the museum with volunteers.
The park will revert to the developer if the pledges are not kept.
