Norwalk : Schools Offer Free Aerobics

Share

The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District is offering employees a benefit of a different type--a low-impact aerobics class. It will be held twice a week at Waite Elementary School beginning Feb. 17, and be free of charge to school employees.

Mary Beth Real, director of employee resources, said the exercise class is part of a larger fitness program the district initiated 10 months ago to help employees reach optimum physical health. The program also offers to help employees with career-related development.

“We’re concerned about offering opportunities in all areas of growth, including fitness,” said Real, who noted that the district surveyed employees for fitness ideas.

The district last week approved an agreement with Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, which calls for the hospital to provide a certified instructor to teach the aerobics class. The expense to the district is $229 a month.
