The Swedish government dismissed Stockholm Police Commissioner Hans Holmer, 56, from the stalled investigation into the assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme last Feb 28. Holmer was relieved of the duty by Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson. Carlsson said the investigation will now be led by national public prosecutor Magnus Sjoberg, assisted by his deputy and three prosecutors working with the national police chief, Holger Romander. Carlsson’s announcement came after eight hours of talks to settle a power struggle between police and prosecutors over the handling of the unsolved case.
