The Tower Commission, nearing its deadline for completing a review of National Security Council staff operations tainted by the Iran arms scandal, decided Wednesday to arrange a second interview with President Reagan.

“He invited us to come back and the board accepted,” said Herbert Hetu, spokesman for the three-member panel headed by former Sen. John Tower (R-Tex.). “There is additional information that they wanted to talk to him about.”

Hetu said the Special Review Board, established by Reagan on Dec. 1, expects to meet with the President “sometime next week.” Discussions reportedly were under way between the commission and the White House to arrange a time.

Answered All Questions

Reagan was questioned on Jan. 26 by Tower and the two other panel members--former Secretary of State Edmund S. Muskie and former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft--with White House and commission staff members present.

After that Oval Office session, which was conducted in private, the White House said Reagan had answered all questions put to him and had expressed his willingness to meet with the board a second time before its Feb. 19 deadline.

The board has interviewed all three living ex-presidents and several other present and former government officials in its review of the organization, operation and role of the security council.
