Profits from three major lines of businesses, with strong increases in lodging and contract food services, plus modest gains in restaurants, contributed to a 15% gain in profit for the Marriott Corp. of Washington for the 1986 fiscal year. Sales increased 24% over the same period in 1985. A spokesman said that results reflected a continued overall favorable economy and increased domestic travel, as well as the acquisition of Saga Corp. in mid-1986 and Howard Johnson Co. in late 1985.
