Condoms can help prevent the spread of AIDS in heterosexual couples but apparently do not provide total protection against the infection, a new study said. The study, published in today’s issue of the Journal of the American Medical Assn., also offers additional strong evidence that AIDS is not spread by less intimate kinds of contact, such as hugging and kissing or sharing facilities. “It’s not reasonable to expect they’re (condoms) going to be perfect,” said Dr. Harold Jaffe of the Centers for Disease Control.
