Laguna Canyon Road Priorities
On Jan. 4 in the View section, your staff writer Meg Sullivan wrote an article on the Laguna Canyon Road issue entitled “A Question of Priorities.”
I thought it was a terrific article. The question I raise, however, is about a quote by California Department of Transportation spokesman Joseph Sanchez, deputy district director for planning. He said: “We cannot turn our back on it and walk away. We feel a moral obligation to look for a solution.”
Where, oh where do public employees obtain the right to have a moral obligation to solve a problem that exists because drivers willingly and wantonly exceed the speed limit? It is beyond me to understand the source of this moral obligation.
It seems to me that the beauty of this canyon road should be preserved and the individual drivers held responsible for driving within the posted speed limit.
