Two prisoners at Central Jail tried to escape by leaping 10 feet from the rooftop to a ledge, but were stumped on how to conquer the next 80 feet and had to be rescued by a hovering Los Angeles County sheriff’s helicopter. “There’s no way to get down unless you’re prepared to get down,” Deputy James Morrow said. “These two obviously weren’t.” Fidel Goni, 33, charged with murder, injured his back and Lazaro Simone, 34, accused of a drug violation, suffered a sprained ankle in the 10-foot leap, Morrow said.
