In other school business, the Board of Education voted, 5-0, to exempt developers in San Diego from new, higher fees for school facilities if they begin construction on their projects by June 30.

The board last week voted to exempt all projects for which developers filed building permits before Jan. 8. On Tuesday, the board said that developers must start construction within six months or pay the higher fees in renewing applications for a second six months.

By allowing the exemption, the district will lose as much as $3 million in fees.
