The World : 5 in Suriname Cabinet Quit
Five members of Suriname’s Cabinet have resigned in the past two days, including Prime Minister Pretaapnarian Radhakishun and Foreign Minister Hendrik Herrenberg, according to an announcement by Desi Bouterse, military leader of the small nation on South America’s northern coast. No precise reason for any of the resignations was mentioned in news dispatches from Suriname, but in the Netherlands, of which Suriname was once a colony, radio station AVRO said that Radhakishun and Herrenberg quit in a dispute over how to handle a rural insurgency in eastern Suriname.
