Former Dodger Candy Maldonado agreed to terms with the San Francisco Giants, thus avoiding a salary arbitration case. Maldonado, who made $170,000 last year, had sought $440,000 this season. The Giants offered $390,000. He will get $415,000.

And in Cleveland, third baseman Brook Jacoby and the Indians agreed to a one-year $612,500 contract minutes before an arbitration hearing. Jacoby, who hit .288 last year with 17 homers and 80 RBIs, filed for $750,000 and the Indians countered with $575,000. The 27-year-old infielder made $375,000 in 1986.

In a case that went to arbitration, Houston Astro outfielder Kevin Bass won his hearing and will receive $630,000 for the 1987 season. The club had offered Bass $560,000. Bass, who earned $310,000 in 1986, hit .311 with 20 homers and 79 RBIs last year.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers and pitcher Alejandro Pena have an arbitration hearing scheduled for today. Pena, who has missed parts of the last two seasons because of an injury to his right shoulder, is seeking $367,500. The Dodgers are offering $280,000. Pena made $350,000 last season.
