World AIDS Toll Rises, Health Body Reports

More than 2,000 new cases of AIDS have been reported in the past month, bringing the world total to 40,536 in 91 countries, the World Health Organization said Friday. The figure compared with 38,400 cases in 84 countries a month ago.

The United States has 29,500 reported cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, and Canada has 809. In Europe, which reported 4,542 cases, France had the most with 1,253, followed by West Germany with 875 and Britain with 638, the organization said.
