The European Broadcasting Union Friday signed a $5.7-million contract for television coverage of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.
The figure is just under 2% of the $309-million ABC paid for exclusive U.S. rights. In 1984, the EBU paid $4.12 million for the Sarajevo Winter Olympics, compared to the $90 million paid by ABC.
NBC has bought the U.S. TV rights for Seoul for a guaranteed minimum of $300 million and a maximum $500 million, depending on advertising revenue.
