Hubbert Wins 1988 Tipton Award : Sales & Marketing Council Pays Tribute to Achievements

Bob Hubbert, president of Hubbert Advertising and Public Relations, Costa Mesa, is the winner of the 1986 Max Tipton Award, presented at the 13th annual Major Achievement in Merchandising Excellence (MAME) awards.

More than 700 entries were received this year, with more than 1,500 attending the Jan. 30 program at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

Entertainer Donny Osmond was master of ceremonies. The MAME awards are presented by the Sales & Marketing Council of Southern California, a unit of the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California.

During his 25 years in the advertising business, Hubbert has been responsible for the marketing of housing worth more than $1 billion. His firm has branch offices in San Diego and Encino.

Hubbert will serve for the fourth time as vice president of membership and public relations for the association. The Tipton award, named after the late Max Tipton, is the council’s highest honor.

Other awards included President’s Award to Marilyn (Marty) Reinfried, first vice president of SMC; Marketing Manager of the Year to Kathi Pepka of the Mission Viejo Co.; Sales Manager of the Year to Allen Morris, Warmington Homes; Sales Person of the Year for a project with an average sales price under $135,000 to Roger Tyson of Presley of Southern California.

Also, Sales Person of the Year for a project with an average sales price between $135,000 and $200,000, a tie between Sandra Van Sickle of Great Western Real Estate and Bonnie McClain of Bramalea Ltd.; Sales Person of the Year for a project with an average sales price about $200,000, to Lorraine Herdman of Urban West Project.

Others were, Sales Team of the Year for any priced project, Jane Madden and Bob Varnum of Presley of Southern California; Grand Award for a project with an average sales price under $120,000, Coral Gardens, Mission Viejo Co.; Grand Award for a project with a sales price between $120,000 and $175,000, Ventana in Mission Viejo by Barratt-Irvine; Grand Award for a development with an average sales price over $175,000, SeaCall in Laguna Niguel by the Buie Corp. and Nevada Savings & Loan.

Lewis & Associates, Los Angeles, which won the 1986 Elan award for the best corporate public relations program, also won the MAME in the same category, for the same client, S&S; Construction. It is believed that this is the first time in the history of the two awards that the same agency won both awards for the same year.

The 1986 MAME Awards celebration was directed by chairman Nick Lehnert of Builder Sales Corp., with assistance from Kathi Pepka, Barbara Smith, Theresa Doyle, Barbara Krueger, Judy Foster, Zoe Simensen, Bonnie Benton, Marilyn Reinfried, Laurel Cech, Linda Wood, Jeffrey Scott, Miriam Tate, Carol Carroll and Camille Burt.

Best sales office over 500 square feet:

Best graphic continuity for a development or master-planned community:
