Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden won the 40th World Cup slalom ski title of his career and moved to within one point of the lead in the season slalom standings at Markstein, France.

Stenmark clocked 1 minute 36:39 seconds for his two runs in wind, snow and fog. West German Armin Bittner was second in 1:36.47, followed by Austria’s Guenther Mader in 1:36.59.

Bojan Krizaj of Yugoslavia leads Stenmark, who has won 85 times in his World Cup career, in the slalom standings, 97-96.
