Someone stole props and costumes for “The Last Unicorn” from a UC Santa Barbara theater troupe, but the show went on anyway Saturday at UCLA. UCSB students had come to perform at the UCLA in regional finals for the American College Theater Festival, but Saturday morning they discovered their truck, loaded with $2,500 in costumes, props, furniture and sound tapes, had been stolen from a street in front of the Holiday Inn in Brentwood. “Everything was gone,” said UCSB drama department Chairman Robert Egan. Enter UCLA, stage right. “The staff, faculty and students at UCLA asked us what we needed,” Egan said. “They called out their troops and built platforms, pulled costumes from their stock, found equivalent furniture, all in about 3 1/2 hours before we were to perform.” The 400 persons in the audience gave the Santa Barbara players a standing ovation, but Los Angeles police haven’t yet brought the curtain down on the case.
