Union employees at Quaker Oats Co. ended a five-day strike against the cereal maker Monday by ratifying a new three-year contract that will provide workers with $1,500 in bonuses over the next six months.

Members of Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Local 110 approved the new pact after a one-hour meeting, ending the first strike against Quaker Oats since 1951. Union leaders said the 850 members of the local will return to work today. The pact will freeze base wages for the next 12 months but will provide the bonuses.
