The Region : Power Failure Knocks Out 911 Service

Share

Emergency 911 telephone service to the Los Angeles Police Department Communications Center was knocked out about an hour because of a power failure at a Pacific Bell Co. downtown station, but there were no reports that anyone was endangered by the breakdown, a police spokesman said. Service was disrupted at 8:52 a.m. and restored at 9:55 a.m., Charlene Baldwin of the telephone company said. Police spokesman Dan Cooke said that on a regular workday about 200 calls usually would be received on the 911 line at that hour. He said any emergency calls or complaints about the 911 line being out would have to been routed to police communications through the regular operator, but none was received.
