The Coast Guard was searching for a man who drifted away from a sailboat after diving in the surf about a half-mile offshore from Point Mugu, Ventura County authorities said. Investigators said the man, whose name was not released, had jumped into the ocean to free a line tangled in the boat’s propeller. A woman companion on the 36-foot boat said the man “was in the water and just couldn’t catch up when the boat began to drift away,” investigators said.
