Kentucky Fried Chicken, which has about 180 outlets in South Africa, said it is withdrawing from the country. A company spokesman said the firm will withdraw its assets “in light of our own progress in South Africa and the prevailing U.S. point of view about doing business in that country.” A third of the outlets there are company-owned, a spokesman said, and of the two-thirds that are franchised, 25% are owned by nonwhites, with 85% nonwhite personnel and 66% nonwhite management.
