Jewel Plummer Cobb, president of California State University, Fullerton, was named 1987 Orange County Manager of the Year by the Orange Coast Chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management.
The chapter’s board of directors cited Cobb, who has been president at the university for five years, for her leadership skills and her work with the public and business communities, said Denise Bates, SAM’s vice president of public relations. SAM, which has over 50 chapters nationwide, promotes the learning of management skills. The Orange County chapter has about 55 members.
“The academic area hasn’t been recognized in the past and Dr. Cobb played a significant role in interacting with the community and businesses,” Bates said. Cobb, 63, was a dean at Rutgers University’s Douglass College in New Jersey before she became president at Cal State Fullerton.
