Huntington Beach : County Funds Asked to Assist KOCE-TV

Share

County Supervisor Harriett Wieder is recommending that the Board of Supervisors grant $25,000 to public television station KOCE to help it cope with a financial crunch and keep a local public affairs series on the air.

Wieder said the station, which was established in 1972 and has offices on the campus of Golden West College in Huntington Beach, faces “serious financial difficulties” because of $1.5 million in cutbacks in college district, federal and state support in the past few years.

She said a $25,000 grant, which the station sought, will enable the “Jim Cooper’s Orange County” series to stay alive for the rest of the year. It also could be used as a challenge grant to stimulate additional private-sector contributions, she said.

Cooper’s program deals with various public affairs issues, including segments on black history, election debates and government in Orange County.
