Assembly Bill Introductions: Coastal Protection: AB 639 by Assemblywoman Lucy Killea (D-San Diego) would place a $200-million coastal protection bond issue on next year’s June primary election ballot.
Gambling: AB 653 by Assemblyman Richard Floyd (D-Hawthorne) would eliminate jail time for convicted illegal gamblers, substituting required community service work. It also would increase the maximum potential fine for gambling from $1,000 to $10,000.
Auto Repairs: AB 642 by Assemblyman Lloyd Connelly (D-Sacramento) would prohibit automobile insurance agents from taking kickbacks from auto repair shops in exchange for accident business referrals.
Holocaust Week: ACR 24 by Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sepulveda) would proclaim the week of April 26-May 3 as Holocaust Memorial Week.
Senate Bills Introduced: Income Tax: SB 416 by Sen. Quentin L. Kopp (Ind.-San Francisco) would make the state income tax for all Californians equal to 30% of their federal income tax obligation.
Courts: SB 410 by Sen. Ed Davis (R-Valencia) would increase the number of Los Angeles County Superior Court judgeships from 224 to 234, and add 14 new Municipal Court judges to various existing courts.
Initiatives: SB 414 by Sen. William A. Craven (R-Oceanside) would make it a misdemeanor offense to offer or give money to initiative petition signers.
