Burgers to Get USC Education Right on Campus

Share

“Cramming” could take on a whole new meaning this spring at the University of Southern California.

In April, students will be able to quickly cram down burgers and fries when USC opens a Carl’s Jr. on the Los Angeles campus.

Carl’s Jr. isn’t the first fast-food chain to go to college. Nine campuses have on-site, national fast-food restaurants, said Eugene P. Lawless, USC executive director of dining services. But this does mark the first time that a university has become an operating franchisee--rather than playing host to company-owned stores, according to Paul Mitchell, a vice president with Anaheim-based Carl Karcher Enterprises, Inc., which operates 440 Carls Jr’s.
