Jonathan Jay Pollard, awaiting sentencing for selling defense secrets to Israel, was denied permission to review the government’s secret assessment of the damage done by another convicted spy. U.S. District Judge Aubrey E. Robinson Jr. in Washington denied the motion by Pollard’s attorneys to inspect the assessment filed before Ronald W. Pelton’s sentencing late last year. Pollard’s lawyers sought the Pelton material to rebut government claims that Pollard’s spying for Israel was as serious as providing secrets to the Soviets.
