The aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy left the Mediterranean for the United States on Thursday, but two other American carriers remained in the area, port officials said.

The Kennedy was rushed to the eastern Mediterranean two weeks ago amid the American hostage crisis in Lebanon. The carriers Nimitz and the Kitty Hawk remain in the Mediterranean on patrol, the port officials said.
