Hourly workers at General Motors Corp.’s Pontiac, Mich., truck and bus plants voted overwhelmingly Friday to strike if necessary over more than 1,000 unsolved grievances at the plants.

Ron Miller, vice president of United Auto Workers Local 594, said a record number of its 8,300 members turned out to vote in favor of a strike authorization.

The official count was 6,204 to 153 in favor of the strike, showing a “yes” vote of 97.6%, Miller said.
