Canadian Ben Johnson equaled his own world indoor record of 6.44 seconds in the 60 meters at Edmonton, Canada, and charged afterwards that other runners had “deliberately” sabotaged his efforts to break the mark by false-starting twice.

Richard Jones of Winnipeg was second in 6.69, Desai Williams of Toronto third in 6.71.

“That was planned, definitely planned,” Johnson said of the false starts.

Williams, who caused the second false start, said: “There’s nothing to it. I trained with Ben for years. Why would I do that?”
