Six people aligned with the “Earth First-Los Angeles” group staged a fast and vigil outside the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles in support of a monthslong anti-nuclear fast in Washington by Charles Hyder. Hyder has vowed to starve himself unless the world commits itself to dismantling all nuclear arms by the year 2000 and the United States ends all military operations outside its borders. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles group, Denise Conway-Mucha, said it is hoped the demonstration will bring public support to Hyder and his cause, to “save the planet.”
