Bruno Marie-Rose of France, despite a slight knee injury, set a world indoor record of 20.36 seconds in the 200 meters on the last day of the European Indoor Track and Field Championships at Leivin, France.

Marie-Rose broke Italian Stefano Tilli’s indoor mark of 20.52 seconds, set exactly two years ago. Marie-Rose’s previous best time was 20.53.

Overall in the meet, East Germany and the Soviet Union each won four titles, host France and the Netherlands three, Bulgaria and Britain two, with six other nations winning one event.

Marie-Rose, 21, said his nagging injury means he will run only the 60 meters at the inaugural World Indoor Championships at Indianapolis March 6-8.
