The Bradford City soccer club was “at fault” in the stadium fire two years ago that killed 56 fans, a judge ruled in Leeds, England.

The decision by Deputy Judge Sir Joseph Cantley in the High Court could open the way for payment of millions of dollars in compensation claims to the families of the dead and injured. More than 150 claims have been filed.

“They (the club) were at fault,” the judge said. “No one in authority seemed to have appreciated the fire hazard. No one gave it the attention it ought to have received. . . . The fact is that no one person was concerned with the safety of the premises.”
