Keith Acton capped a three-goal second period with the winning goal for Minnesota as the North Stars beat the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3, in the only National Hockey League game Monday night.

After Minnesota’s Brian MacLellan and the Canadiens’ Claude Lemieux traded first-period goals, the North Stars jumped on Montreal’s mistakes in the second.

Brian Bellows, left unchecked, scored to start the rally. Brian Lawton snapped a loose puck into the net midway through the period and an errant Montreal pass sent Acton flying late in the period.

Larry Robinson and Lemieux scored for the Canadiens in the third period, but steady goaltending by rookie Kari Takko kept them from tying the game.

Overall, Montreal outshot Minnesota, 35-28.
