The executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California resigned effective March 20. Dr. Gayle Binion issued a statement to the ACLU board, saying she plans to return to research, teaching and university administration at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mary Ellen Gale, president of the ACLU, and Laurie Ostrow, chairperson of the ACLU Foundation, praised Binion, acknowledging “her contribution to the progress of the ACLU of Southern California. A search committee made up of directors from both the ACLU and ACLU Foundation will invite applications from appropriate candidates throughout the country.
