Arthur Collins, Radio Firm Founder, Dies

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Arthur A. Collins, founder of Collins Radio Co., died Wednesday at the age of 77.
An inventor, amateur radio operator and licensed pilot, Collins was an innovator in aviation communications who developed advanced data communications and control concepts--techniques used in digital switching for the telecommunications industry.
He founded Collins Radio Co. in 1931, a business that was acquired 40 years later by Rockwell International.
