REGER: FOUR STUDIES FOR THE LEFT HAND. WALKER: PIANO SONATA NO. 4; RAVEL: “VALSES NOBLES ET SENTIMENTALES.” LISZT: THREE ETUDES AFTER PAGANINI. Frederick Moyer, piano. GM-2016 (compact disc). Moyer breezes through this splendidly varied and arduously demanding recital with technical and stylistic colors flying. He disentangles the dense Regerian harmonies, informs Ravel’s suite with delicately gauged phrasing and an insinuating lilt, permits the Paganini/Liszt/Busoni miniatures their share of brilliance (“La Campanella” scintillates here) and brings enormous fervor to the Walker sonata, a motoric, steely essay to which Moyer gave its premiere in 1985. Superlative sound.
