Edgar M. Gillenwaters, former director of private banking for Bank of America, has joined the new Walnut Land Co., Torrance, as president and chief executive officer. Gillenwaters served as director of commerce for the State of California under then Gov. Ronald Reagan. He is a USC Life associate and vice chairman of fundraising for its new health science program.

Peter B. Denniston has been appointed senior vice president of development for Homart Development Co., Newport Beach. Denniston is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Assn. of Industrial and Office Parks, the Commercial Industrial Council and the UCLA Dean’s Council. Homart’s current projects include the Wilshire Landmark office tower in West Los Angeles.

Douglas E. Buie has been named vice president and chief financial office of the Buie Corp., San Diego. Buie had been assistant treasurer of J. P. Stevens & Co. of New York City. Prior to joining Stevens, he was a vice president at Bankers Trust also in New York. Buie will be responsible for raising venture capital, forming partnerships and devising alternative financing methods for future projects.

Phyllis A. Shess has been appointed vice president and general counsel of Carole Eichen Interiors Inc., the Santa Ana-based model home merchandising firm. Shess will be involved in contract negotiations and some aspects of public relations. She was previously associated with the San Diego law firm of Miller & Gibbs, as well as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

William M. Schnee, Denis Ouelette and James K. Sullivan have joined the Klabin Co., Inglewood-based commercial realty firm that celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

Abraam Krushkhov, an urban and regional planner with more than 35 years of experience, has affiliated with the Santa Ana architecture and planning firm POD Inc. as a consultant.

Brian Barr has been named director of leasing and acquisition for San Val Development Corp., Sherman Oaks.

Kenneth G. McCord has been named vice president of finance and administration for the Grubb & Ellis Co.’s Pacific Southwest region, Irvine. Jill Greene has joined the firm as public relations coordinator for the region, responsible for Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Harrison Waite III, M. R. (Mim) Scott and James B. Kylstad have been elected to the board of San Diego’s Housing Opportunities Inc.
