Members of the Jewish Defense League were to hand out fliers Tuesday night during Paul Simon’s concert at the Universal Amphitheater, in an effort to persuade the Grammy-winning singer to take a stand on the plight of Soviet Jews. Shelley Rubin, the league’s local administrative director, said the organization was not protesting against Simon, but rather asking him to help the 400,000 Jews still living in the Soviet Union. The fliers read, in part: “Paul Simon: 400,000 Soviet Jews are dying for your help.” Simon’s spokesman, Dan Clores, said he had no comment.
