Benefits and Pitfalls of Answering Machines

Bloom’s letter was beautifully expressed and depicted my sentiments almost to the letter. There was only one thing he failed to mention that is a massive thorn in my side--long distance and toll calls.

How much money have I thrown away trying to get in touch with someone, especially in the Los Angeles area, only to be charged for a call that, without an answering machine, would not have cost me a cent?

Such is “progress”? And I don’t suppose there is a single thing I can do about this, short of simply not calling.
